McCurdy petitions for flood fencing funding
Friday 18 January 2019
Nationals Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy MP, has started a petition for residents of Ovens Valley calling on the Victorian Government and Jacyln Symes Minister for Agriculture to provide flood fencing funding in the wake of the devastating December flooding event.
“This petition is calling on the Victorian State Government to fund fencing materials up to $10,000 per farm for affected farmers,” said Mr McCurdy.
Mr McCurdy has been calling on the newly appointed Minister for Agriculture to provide urgent funding for fencing but is yet to hear from Minister Symes.
“I know the Christmas holiday period is upon us but it is now over a month since the event.
“The member for Northern Victoria and Minister for Agriculture Jaclyn Symes needs to visit the region and look at the extent of the damage, and support the people that have been devastated by this event,” said Mr McCurdy.
“The communities impacted by the December weather event require assistance now.
“I continue to meet with landholders who are devastated by the impact of the storm and who are facing the mammoth task of cleaning up the damage,” continued Mr McCurdy
“There has been much damage to fencing. Our farmers and landholders need financial assistance to repair and replace fencing.”
The petition is available for signature at the Everton Store and at Mr McCurdy’s electorate office; 15 Murphy Street, Wangaratta.
