Wangaratta law and order community forum

Thursday 10 August 2017

MR McCURDY (Ovens Valley) — More than 60 people attended a Wangaratta law and order community forum last week that brought together local residents to discuss the problems with our justice system and what needs to be done to bring about change.

I thank the member for Hawthorn and Edward O'Donohue from the Council, who were guest speakers at the forum; they provided a great deal of knowledge and insight on the issue and addressed questions from the audience.

It is a shame that the Minister for Police did not even respond to my invitation.

Also my thanks go to Tania Maxwell and Carol Roadknight, co-founders of the Enough is Enough anti-violence campaign, who continue to work so hard for parole and bail reform and harsher penalties for violent criminals.

As a result of the forum a local law and order steering committee has now been formed and will continue to pursue a safer local community.

Together we can make a difference
