A website won’t fix country roads

Nationals Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy said funding for a ‘Country Roads’ website announced by Labor this week was nothing more than a cheap stunt. 

Mr McCurdy said the funding didn’t contain one extra cent to fix country roads.

“The Labor Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan announced a new VicRoads website claiming it was a ‘bold plan’ that will keep people informed and keep people safe,” Mr McCurdy said.

“Country Victorians don’t need a website to tell us regional and rural roads have been seriously neglected by the Andrews Labor Government.

“Luke Donnellan’s ‘bold plan’ doesn’t include a cent of new investment to fix country roads.”

Mr McCurdy said the only ‘bold’ part of Labor’s plan was its absolute determination to ignore the needs of country Victorians.

“Instead of spending money on websites that do nothing to fix country roads, Daniel Andrews should be reversing his decision to cut the Liberal Nationals’ $160 million Country Roads and Bridges Program.

“Labor’s record on country roads is appalling. In their first year of Government Daniel Andrews cut the highly successful Nationals Country Roads and Bridges Program, and further cut hundreds of millions of dollars from the VicRoads road asset management budget.

“Local people don’t want a webpage to tell them how many potholes they have to dodge on country roads.

“What our people want are the potholes in country roads fixed.”
