Funds for Northeast Health Wangaratta

Friday 23 March 2018

Nationals Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy today congratulated Northeast Health Wangaratta on being awarded $6.9 million for the next stage of its redevelopment plan.

Mr McCurdy said the funding was a fantastic result for the hospital and the community.

“I have always supported and advocated for Northeast Health Wangaratta and the vital service this hospital provides to local residents,” said Mr McCurdy.

“My meetings with the Health Minister Jill Hennessy have paid off which I am very grateful for.

“Hospital chief executive Margaret Bennett, the board and the 1200 staff at the hospital do an incredible job and deserve to be provided with quality facilities to support them in delivering the best possible standard of health care.

“Our region needs and deserves its fair share of hospital funding and this is outstanding for the health needs of our community.”

Mr McCurdy said Northeast Health Wangaratta is the major referral hospital for people with complex health needs from Bright, Mansfield, Beechworth, Myrtleford, Yarrawonga, Euroa and Benalla.

“This funding will provide Northeast Health with the capacity to continue to meet the referral demand from across North-East Victoria,” continued Mr McCurdy.

“Northeast Health Wangaratta services a wide catchment and provides health care to more than 90,000 people across our region so this funding is needed.

“Everyone deserves quality health services, whether they live in the city or the country, so it’s important regional areas are provided with first-class facilities,” Mr McCurdy said.

“I will continue to advocate for the Yarrawonga, Cobram and Alpine health services to ensure they too receive the funding necessary to deliver the best standard of care for local patients.”
