International Women’s Day

Monday, March 7, 2022

International Women’s Day is an important day to mark the achievements of the fantastic women in our community. Over the coming weeks there is a variety of events being held throughout the Ovens Valley, and I encourage everyone to find the time to attend one of these events.

The Ovens Valley has been home to a large number of talented women who have gone on to do some wonderful things. We continue to get behind them and ensure that the next generation of young women and girls have the opportunity to follow in their footsteps.

International Women’s Day helps to raise awareness and support for those women who are still suffering from discrimination, such as those unable to access education for various reasons. It also celebrates the contributions made by all women – no matter how big or small it is. I am always reminded every year the impact my mum has had on me, and the hard work she did for my siblings and I, ensuring that we were able to grow up in a better world. Her contribution, whilst small to some, had a large impact on me.

Once again, I encourage everyone to get out and help celebrate the important role women play in our society. I look forward to attending various events over the coming weeks to help celebrate.
