Letter to the Editor - Australia Day 2019

Tuesday 29 January 2019

Australia Day 2019 was a wonderful celebration of community in the Ovens Valley on Saturday.

Across the region people attended Australia Day events and gatherings, enjoying the opportunity to come together and celebrate our Aussie way of life in its many different forms.

The invaluable contribution that volunteers make to our community was recognised by way of a number of awards.

Citizen of the Year awards were presented across the Alpine, Wangaratta and Moira shires, honouring those who have worked tirelessly to make our region a better place to live.

Order of Australia accolades were presented to several well-deserving local residents and I congratulate them on this outstanding achievement.

New citizens were officially welcomed and we celebrated what is great about our way of life in the Ovens Valley.

I thank all the community groups and councils who organised and ran local celebrations from those in our small towns to our regional centres.

I trust that Ovens Valley residents enjoyed Australia Day with community, family and friends.
