Letter to the Editor - Protect the CFA volunteers who protect us

Tuesday 9 May 2017

This week is National Volunteers Week and while Victorians are celebrating our CFA firefighters’ generous contribution, Daniel Andrews is planning to sell out volunteers by splitting the CFA.

It was revealed this week that Daniel Andrews has set up a secret committee to split the CFA, casting aside the tens of thousands of CFA volunteers that he considers second to his Union mates.

Here in the Ovens Valley, we know how vital the CFA is to us and that CFA volunteers are treated with the upmost respect.

From our small communities like Katamatite, Tungamah and Whitfield through to larger towns including Myrtleford and Bright, we all rely on the CFA.

But the city-centric Daniel Andrews government that has walked all over the CFA for two years continues the march over our volunteers.

The Premier has cut $47 million from the Emergency Management budget and is now splitting the CFA which will only result in further reductions of volunteer firefighters.

Unlike the Andrews Government, the Liberal Nationals Coalition will continue to stand by CFA volunteers to ensure their rights and Victorian families’ lives are best protected.

Here in the Ovens Valley and across the state we need to protect those volunteers who protect us.
