Nationals set to fund Cobram soccer clubrooms
Sunday 17 June 2018
An elected Nationals Government will fund new clubrooms for the Cobram Roar Soccer Club, Nationals Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy announced today.
Mr McCurdy said he was delighted to make the $650,000 pledge to the dedicated members of Cobram Roar and community representatives.
“Under the Nationals, Cobram Roar will finally have a permanent home at the Apex Reserve where much-needed new clubrooms will be built,” Mr McCurdy said.
“This is a facility the club really needs and deserves so it’s fantastic to be able to make this commitment.
“Cobram Soccer has been in existence for 60 years and this club has been operating without clubrooms. It’s really been pushed from pillar to post so this new facility will make a huge difference.”
An elected Nationals government will provide $650,000 to the project with funding also to be provided by Moira Shire Council, Cobram soccer and in-kind donations.
Mr McCurdy said soccer had the largest following of any sport in Cobram.
“The Cobram soccer community has been seeking this support for a long time,” he said.
“The amalgamation of the Tigers and Victory to create Cobram Roar signaled the right time for the future and vision for soccer in Cobram to be realised.
“This permanent home and change room facilities will provide the Cobram Soccer Club with the basic requirements of a sporting club.
“This project will enable club growth and increase participation in sport and active lifestyles.”
