Safety in Alpine comes second under Daniel Andrews
25 July 2019
New Police figures released today by the Victorian Police Association shows residents in Alpine are not getting their fair share of new police resources under Daniel Andrews.
The Victorian Police Association has today stated that of the 900 new Police allocated over the past 3 years, only 77 officers have gone to regional Victoria (around 8.6%.)
This paltry allocation of new officers comes as the latest independent crime statistics agency data confirms total offences in the Alpine have risen over 18.6% under Daniel Andrews.
This increase in crime includes a dramatic jump in the following serious offences in Alpine over the 12 months to March 2019;
- 56% increase in drug offences including a 48% increase in drug use and possession
- 47% increase in assault and related offences
- 41% increase in property damage offences
When it comes to the safety of regional Victorians, Daniel Andrews has left local Police and local communities to fend for themselves.
Comments attributable to Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy MP:
“Local Police in Alpine work hard to keep their communities safe but aren’t getting the support they deserve from the Andrews Labor Government.”
“Daniel Andrews needs look beyond Melbourne, wake up to the need of regional communities and ensure they get their fair share of police resources.”
