Saputo job cuts hit home

Friday, 25th February 2022

Nationals Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy recently called in Parliament for the Victorian Government to support staff who have lost their jobs during the recent Saputo cutbacks in Cobram.

Saputo, which is a Canadian-based dairy manufacturer recently announced that it will be closing the Cobram Individual Wrapped Slices (IWS) production area in June 2022*.

In Parliament Mr McCurdy said, “We are still unclear as to the exact number of job losses, but one job is too many to lose.

“I call on the Victorian Government to support our communities like Cobram, particularly in light of the Government’s Covid-19 management blunders.”

He continued, “I sincerely hope the Minister for Regional Development has a Plan B ready for Cobram staff that find themselves unemployed.”

Mr McCurdy said he will continue to follow this up with the Victorian Government.
