Train talks with Federal Transport Minister
Thursday 30 March 2017
Nationals Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy this week met with Federal Transport Minister Darren Chester to discuss the North-East rail line.
Mr McCurdy said the main issues raised at the Canberra meeting were the ongoing unreliability of the service and the frustration of passengers.
“Minister Chester is aware of the many issues facing the North-East rail line and it was worthwhile to meet with him in person to discuss these,” Mr McCurdy said.
“It was important to speak to him directly about the improvements that are needed on the track.
“A combination of Federal and State funding is required to address the problems being endured.”
Mr McCurdy said Mr Chester was expected to join him in riding the North East line shortly.
He said not a day went by that he did not hear from passengers or receive notification from VLine about interruptions to the time timetable or buses replacing trains.
“The Victorian Labor Government has complete disregard for the state of the North East rail line,” he said.
“The ageing rolling stock is the cause of many problems local travellers continue to face.
“Train travel in North-East Victoria is continually overlooked by Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan and it is simply not good enough.”
