The Nationals' Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, says regional Victorians have been let down once again by the Allan Labor Government, which continues to break promises and ignore the needs of country communities.
It has been revealed that regional passengers won’t have access to Tap and Go Myki payments until 2030 or later, leaving them stuck with outdated paper tickets while city commuters enjoy modern convenience.
Mr McCurdy said the delay was yet another sign that Labor has abandoned regional transport.
“Labor is happy to make big promises before an election, but the moment the votes are counted, they walk away,” Mr McCurdy said.
“Now they’re asking rural Victorians to keep using paper tickets in 2025. It’s insulting, and it proves how out of touch this government really is.”
Mr McCurdy said the Myki rollout has been a costly and ongoing disaster for regional commuters.
“Labor’s been in power for ten years, and they still can’t get the basics right. If they can’t manage train tickets, how can we trust them to deliver any real upgrades?”
“Regional Victorians aren’t asking for the world, we just want fair and reliable access to public transport. But once again, Labor’s focus is squarely on the city.”
“The Nationals will continue to stand up for regional communities and demand the investment and services we deserve.”
Labor can't manage public transport, and regional Victorians are paying the price.
