Celebrating a legacy of service and reconciliation

I would like to congratulate Bevan Tremellan on the unveiling of his handprint at Marmungun Rock in Wangaratta last weekend.

Having his handprint permanently carved into the rock in recognition of his achievement as Wangaratta’s Citizen of the Year is a fitting tribute to someone who has made a lasting contribution to our community. It was clearly a proud and well-deserved moment for Bevan, his family and all those who have worked alongside him over the years.

Marmungun Rock is more than a place of recognition,it stands as a symbol of unity, respect and community spirit. The vision of the late Aboriginal elder Wally Cooper was to inspire reconciliation by celebrating people who have helped bring communities together, regardless of background.

His legacy continues through this meaningful tradition, reminding us that reconciliation is built through shared respect, understanding and recognising those who make a positive difference.

Bevan’s inclusion at Marmungun Rock is a testament not only to his dedication to Wangaratta but also to the enduring values that Wally Cooper championed. 

Congratulations once again to Bevan on this significant honour and to everyone involved in continuing a tradition that celebrates community, service and reconciliation for future generations.
