The Nationals' Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, has joined in celebrating National Carers Week 2025 (12–18 October), paying tribute to the more than 750,000 unpaid carers across Victoria who provide essential care and support to family members and loved ones.
Mr McCurdy said National Carers Week is an important time to recognise the compassion and commitment of unpaid carers, people who often put their own needs aside to care for others.
“Unpaid carers are the backbone of our communities. They provide invaluable support for those living with disability, chronic illness, or ageing-related needs, often quietly and without recognition,” Mr McCurdy said.
“This week is a reminder for all of us to take the time to care for a carer. Whether that’s reaching out, offering a hand, or simply saying thank you, small actions can make a big difference.”
Throughout the week, Carers Victoria is encouraging individuals, schools, and organisations to show their support through local events, social media engagement, and community activities.
Iconic landmarks across Victoria, including Benalla Library, Eastbank Concert Hall in Shepparton, and the Bendigo Conservatory, will be lit in Carers Victoria’s colours blue, white, and red, as part of the “Light-Up Victoria” campaign, shining a light on the incredible work carers do every day.
“Our carers deserve to be celebrated not just this week, but every week,” Mr McCurdy said. “I encourage everyone in the Ovens Valley to get involved, show their appreciation, and help spread the message, we see you, and we thank you.”
