McCurdy condemns ambulance station attack

The Nationals' Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, has condemned a suspected arson attack on Ambulance Victoria's Wangaratta headquarters, describing the incident as another alarming example of crime spiralling out of control under the Allan Labor Government.

The suspected attack occurred on Friday night while local paramedics were responding to an emergency call, with significant damage caused to the administration area of the Tone Road facility.

Mr McCurdy said targeting an emergency service facility was a disgraceful act that should outrage every Victorian.

"Our paramedics dedicate their lives to helping others, often in difficult and dangerous circumstances. To allegedly target an ambulance station while crews are out responding to emergencies is completely unacceptable," Mr McCurdy said.

"This is not just an attack on a building. It is an attack on the hardworking emergency service personnel who serve our community every day."

Mr McCurdy said the incident reflected a broader crime crisis unfolding across Victoria.

"Across the state, Victorians are seeing rising crime, increasing violence and a justice system that has lost the confidence of the community. Labor has spent years weakening laws and sending the wrong message to offenders, and regional communities are paying the price."

"In Wangaratta, breaches of bail offences have doubled over the past 12 months. That should be a wake-up call for the Allan Labor Government, but instead Victorians continue to see soft laws and a revolving door justice system."

While grateful no one was injured and ambulance services continue to operate, Mr McCurdy said Victorians deserved better.

"Our emergency workers should be focused on saving lives, not worrying about whether their workplace will be targeted by criminals."

"After more than a decade of Labor, crime is out of control and regional Victoria is being let down. In November, Victorians will have the opportunity to vote for a fresh start with a government committed to restoring law and order, backing our police and emergency services, and putting community safety first."

Mr McCurdy said the suspected arson attack should serve as a reminder that community safety cannot be taken for granted and that stronger action is needed to get crime under control across Victoria.
