Nationals Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, has paid tribute to the extraordinary contribution of local volunteers as part of National Volunteer Week 2025, praising their dedication and the vital role they play in connecting and supporting regional communities.
“This year’s theme - Connecting Communities - sums it up perfectly. Our volunteers are the glue that holds our communities together,” Mr McCurdy said.
“From emergency services to sporting clubs, community groups and environmental projects, their efforts make our towns stronger, safer, and more compassionate.”
Mr McCurdy extended his sincere thanks to every volunteer across the Ovens Valley.
“On behalf of our community, thank you. Your time, energy, and generosity do not go unnoticed. You represent the very best of regional Victoria.”
Mr McCurdy said that whilst this week is about recognising volunteers, the Allan Labor Government continues to push policies that degrade them, including refusing to "scrap the tax" (ESVF) and dismissing concerns raised by the Emergency Services throughout Victoria.
“At a time when we should be celebrating our volunteers, Labor is hitting households with another unfair tax and ignoring the voices of those who serve,” he said.
“The government must listen to those it relies on and genuinely respect the role of volunteers in our emergency services.”
Mr McCurdy reaffirmed The Nationals’ commitment to standing by local volunteers and ensuring they receive the recognition, support, and respect they’ve earned.
“Let’s celebrate our volunteers, not just for a week, but every day of the year.”
