Labor’s failure to deliver on critical infrastructure promises for regional education in 2024/25 continues to leave Wangaratta High School and Yarrawonga P-12 College without the necessary funding for their long-overdue upgrades.

The Victorian Labor Government's broken promises have left critical school upgrades in the Ovens Valley stalled, disadvantaging our students and communities.

Wangaratta High School was promised $11.7 million during the 2022 election for essential classroom upgrades. However, this funding was cruelly withdrawn in 2023, leaving over 600 students in outdated facilities. This betrayal has caused significant disruption and disappointment within the school community.

Similarly, Yarrawonga P-12 College has been awaiting funding for its final stage of development since the completion of the first stage in 2017.

Despite the school's readiness and the community's rapid growth, the necessary funds have not been forthcoming. This neglect hampers the school's ability to provide modern, comprehensive education facilities.

Tim McCurdy, Member for Ovens Valley, expressed his deep disappointment:

"Labor's broken promises are creating a two-class education system in our region,” Mr McCurdy said.

“Our students deserve access to quality facilities, yet they are left waiting due to the government's neglect."

“The Allan Labor Government needs to govern for all Victorians, not just those in metropolitan areas."

“It's time they come good on their commitments and invest in the future of our regional schools."
