McCurdy pushes for fairness for Dinner Plain

The Nationals' Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, has highlighted the introduction of legislation that includes provisions to exclude Dinner Plain from the Vacant Residential Land Tax (VLRT), a move he says is long overdue.

Mr McCurdy said this development follows ongoing advocacy from both himself and The Nationals' Member for Northern Victoria, Gaelle Broad, who have continued to call for fair treatment for the Dinner Plain community.

“I have continued to raise in Parliament the inequity of the Vacant Residential Land Tax on Dinner Plain residents,” Mr McCurdy said.

“Dinner Plain sits at 1570 metres, higher than some exempt alpine resorts, and faces the same seasonal challenges. If it looks like an alpine resort and operates like one, it should be recognised as one.”

Mr McCurdy said while the legislation still needs to pass through Parliament, he strongly supports the Dinner Plain component of the proposal.

“This is a positive step for the Dinner Plain community, and I’ll continue to advocate until these changes are confirmed and residents receive the fair treatment they deserve.”
