McCurdy pushes for state support for Cobram clubrooms upgrade

The Nationals' Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, has renewed his call for the Victorian Government to provide urgent funding in the upcoming State Budget for the Cobram Football Netball Clubrooms.

“The Cobram Football Netball Club, also known as the Cobram Tigers, is at the heart of our community, supporting everyone from young players just starting out to long-time club members,” Mr McCurdy said.

Established in 1883, the Cobram Tigers are one of the oldest and most successful amateur football and netball clubs in the region, competing in the Murray Football Netball League.

Over the years, the club has developed a proud history of premierships and accolades, particularly during the 1950s and 1960s, and continuing through the 1990s, 2000s, and 2025. Its strong junior programs have nurtured young players who have gone on to higher levels, while the club’s loyal supporters and committed volunteers have helped maintain its enduring legacy.

“Unfortunately, the current clubrooms are aging, overused, and increasingly non-compliant. Patchwork repairs over the years have kept the building open, but it is now well beyond what can be fixed; a complete rebuild is desperately needed. These facilities are essential for players, junior programs, volunteers, and the wider community,” Mr McCurdy said.

This project has been on Mr McCurdy’s advocacy list for over ten years. The Moira Shire Council has already committed $1.75 million, and with support from the Victorian Government, the new player rooms and shared facilities can finally become a reality.

“The need for modern, safe, and functional facilities has never been more pressing. Supporting this project is about giving back to a club that has given so much to Cobram for generations,” Mr McCurdy said.

He urged the State Government to prioritise the project in the 2026-27 Budget to ensure Cobram FNC can continue to thrive and support future generations of players and community members.
