The Nationals’ Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, recently met in parliament with an AusNet representative to further discuss the situation faced by locals of King Valley due to incessant and unpredictable power outages.

These extreme outages, which have been reported by residents to last more than 15 hours, with up to 13 outages in a week, have wreaked havoc on local businesses and homes in recent months.

These recurring outages have caused locals to lose faith in their energy providers; further casting doubt on the Allan Labor Government's ability to provide reliable management of the state’s electricity.

Mr McCurdy met with a senior AusNet representative, where he expressed an immediate need for assistance and answers for the people of King Valley.

“I met with senior AusNet representatives in parliament recently who apologized for the number of outages in the Ovens and King Valleys over the Summer period caused by extreme weather," Mr McCurdy said.

The representative reported that AusNet are experiencing more 'weather events' that impact their network and outlined several future upgrades proposed for the area.

Mr McCurdy has been relentless in conveying the gravity of the impact that these outages have had on locals and the need for urgent resolve.

“These outages and the frequency in which they are occurring are completely unacceptable," Mr McCurdy said.

“Jacinta Allan and Lily D’Ambrosio have displayed their inability to manage the current system and offer little to be desired with the transition to renewables."

AusNet are currently investigating as to whether they can provide generation support and have encouraged King Valley organisations to apply to the Energy Resilience Community Fund, to see if viable initiatives can be provided to locals, such as batteries.
