No more free passes for repeat offenders

For too long, regional communities like ours have been let down by Labor’s soft-on-crime approach, and it’s putting lives at risk.
That’s why I’m proud to support the Break Bail, Face Jail policy; a strong and sensible plan to restore accountability to Victoria’s bail system and keep our communities safe.
This policy will reintroduce real consequences for repeat and youth offenders who continue to breach the trust of the courts. It’s about putting the rights of victims and families ahead of repeat offenders who treat bail like a joke.
Under this policy, we will:
Reinstate the offence of committing an indictable offence while on bail as a Schedule 2 offence, forcing tougher bail tests.
Reinstate breaching bail as a Schedule 2 offence, making it harder to be granted bail again.
Scrap the current exemption for youth offenders, because under-18s shouldn’t be getting a free pass.
Reclassify robbery and burglary as Schedule 2 offences, ensuring serious crimes face serious scrutiny.
I’ve heard loud and clear from people across the Ovens Valley and regional Victoria alike, you’re sick of crime increasing while offenders walk free. This plan will help end the revolving door of bail breaches and reoffending.
Bail is not a right, it’s a privilege. If you break bail, you should face jail.
This policy puts community safety first — and that’s exactly where it belongs.
Labor can't manage community safety, and Victorians are paying the price.
