The Nationals’ Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, is encouraging young local farmers to take advantage of the 2025 Young Farmer Upskill and Invest Scholarship.

Offering up to $10,000 in support, the scholarship is open to farmers aged 18 to 40 and aims to strengthen careers in agriculture through both training and on-farm investment.

Applicants can receive up to $5,000 for education or skills development, and an additional $5,000 to boost their farm business.

Mr McCurdy said the initiative is a vital step in backing the region’s next generation of producers.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for young farmers across the Ovens Valley to upskill, innovate, and build their businesses for long-term success,” he said.

“From agronomy and irrigation to business planning and land management, the training support can be tailored to meet the individual needs of our young farmers and their farms.”

To be eligible, applicants must have at least two years of on-farm experience and be working a minimum of three days a week in a farm business.

Mr McCurdy added that the scholarship funding can be used for a range of practical improvements, including new equipment, technology upgrades and professional development.

“Our young farmers are the future of the industry. This program gives them the tools they need to thrive and lead,” he said.

Applications close July 23. For more information or to apply, visit the Young Farmer Scholarships website.
