Nationals Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, has once again raised the fight in Parliament to have the unfair Vacant Residential Land Tax (VLRT) removed from Dinner Plain residents.

Mr McCurdy spoke at length about the issue during his committee report and, in a coordinated effort, The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria, Gaelle Broad, also questioned the Treasurer in the Legislative Council on behalf of the community.

The Treasurer’s response was notably positive, confirming that further advice is being sought and that the concerns raised by Mr McCurdy, Ms Broad and local residents are being carefully considered.

Mr McCurdy said the campaign is about fairness for a community that faces unique challenges.

“Dinner Plain is a seasonal village with no public transport, no medical services, no supermarket or community infrastructure outside the snow season.

It simply makes no sense to penalise residents under this tax when neighbouring alpine resorts are exempt,” Mr McCurdy said.

“We acknowledge the Treasurer’s comments that the matter is under active review, but the job isn’t done yet. We will continue to advocate strongly to have this unjust tax scrapped.”

“The response was positive, but we will not stop advocating until Dinner Plain residents are granted the fair treatment they deserve.

There is no justification for continuing this double standard.”

Ms Broad said, “We will continue to stand with the Dinner Plain community and will keep pushing for this unfair tax to be removed.”
