Turning of the sod marks exciting new chapter for Yarrawonga stadium project

The Nationals' Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, has paid tribute in Parliament, to the official turning of the sod for the Yarrawonga Multipurpose Stadium, marking the beginning of a landmark project that will deliver lasting benefits for local families, sporting clubs and the wider community.

Mr McCurdy said it was a proud moment to see construction finally commence after years of advocacy and dedication from passionate local supporters.

"This project has been many years in the making, and seeing construction finally begin is a fantastic milestone for Yarrawonga and the surrounding district," Mr McCurdy said.

Mr McCurdy paid tribute to Amanda Wheaton, who first approached him more than 12 years ago to help build momentum for the project, as well as Sue Bigger, whose commitment over three decades helped turn a vision into reality.

"Amanda and Sue have shown remarkable persistence, determination and belief in this project, and they deserve enormous credit for never giving up on delivering this facility for the community," he said.

Mr McCurdy also acknowledged Moira Shire administrators Graham Emonson and Susan Benedyka for honouring the long-standing commitment and ensuring the project could finally move forward.

"This multipurpose stadium will be a game changer for Yarrawonga and the surrounding district, providing a first-class venue for sport, recreation and community events for generations to come.

"I have no doubt this investment will inspire the next generation of athletes, with future champions beginning their sporting journeys on these courts. Congratulations to everyone who has played a part in bringing this incredible community asset to life."
