The Nationals' Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, is encouraging local communities to get behind Legacy Week, running from August 31 to September 6, and honour the sacrifice of our veterans and their families.
Since 1923, Legacy has been a cornerstone of support for the families of fallen and injured service men and women. For more than 100 years, this remarkable organisation has ensured that no widow, widower, or child of a veteran is ever left without care.
The funds raised during Legacy Week go directly toward vital assistance, from financial and educational support to building a community of strength and compassion for those left behind.
Mr McCurdy said Legacy Week is a time for Australians to reflect on the enduring impact of service and to show gratitude to the families who continue to carry its weight.
“Legacy embodies the true Australian spirit of mateship, loyalty, and compassion. For generations, they have stood by the families of our veterans and ensured that sacrifice is never forgotten,” Mr McCurdy said.
“It is also important to acknowledge the tireless efforts of volunteers and supporters who make Legacy Week possible each year. Whether you purchase a badge, donate to a collection tin, or simply raise awareness in your community, every action makes a difference to a veteran’s family.”
“As Australians, we have a responsibility to support those who gave so much for our freedom. By supporting Legacy Week, we uphold the values of care and respect that define us as a nation.”
This Legacy Week, from August 31 to September 6, Mr McCurdy encourages all Australians to wear a badge with pride, knowing that every contribution helps provide dignity, security, and hope to the families of those who served.
