The Nationals’ Member for Ovens Valley, Tim McCurdy, is urging the Allan Labor Government to fully fund the long-overdue Stage 3 redevelopment at Yarrawonga College P–12 in the upcoming May State Budget.
“This project has been a high priority since 2014. Stage 3 will finally unite the school on one campus, giving all students from prep to Year 12 access to modern facilities and resources,” Mr McCurdy said.
“Yarrawonga is one of the fastest-growing towns in regional Victoria, yet the school has been operating across two campuses since the merger of the primary and secondary schools in 2010. This creates logistical challenges and limits integration across all year levels, making it harder for staff and students to operate efficiently.”
Mr McCurdy said the completion of Stage 3 is long overdue, with the project dragging on for more than 15 years. The current facilities are not at the standard of similar schools across the region, and the ongoing growth in the community is putting further pressure on the College.
Recent housing developments, including Silverwoods and Glanmire Park Estates, will significantly increase enrolments in the coming years, meaning more advanced, fully integrated learning spaces are essential.
“The full cost of Stage 3 is now expected to be in excess of $20 million. Anything less risks delivering only a partial, temporary solution. The community has waited far too long, it’s time for the Government to properly finish this project and give local students the school they deserve,” he said.
“Regional students cannot afford another delay, the May Budget is the Government’s opportunity to deliver this vital project once and for all.”
